Submissions Are OPEN!

Publication Overview

Fiery Scribe Review accepts submissions year-round and reads on a rolling basis. We do not operate within a fixed reading window. All submissions should align with our mission statement. Please read it carefully to understand our editorial expectations.

Submissions are reviewed continuously, and contributors typically receive a decision within 2-5 weeks. Accepted work is scheduled for the next available issue. Issues are published periodically as work is curated and prepared for publication, which generally takes 2–3 months from acceptance.

Each issue awards a flat $15 Editor’s Choice prize to any work that best represents the spirit of that issue, regardless of genre. While we cannot yet compensate all contributors, all works are selected with equal care.

Mission Statement

Fiery Scribe Review is a global literary journal that glorifies the unusual. Our focus is on profound and strange literature that challenges the status quo. We pay even close attention to the absurd, the transgressive, and the fantastic, especially if they engage with urgent global realities and the general human condition.

As an inclusive market, we invite diverse voices to share their most thought-provoking secrets. If it doesn’t ignite a conversation, it’s not for us.

General Guidelines
  1. Exclusivity: We only consider previously unpublished work. This includes personal blogs and social media.
  2. Anonymity: Fiery Scribe Review practices a semi-blind reading process. DO NOT include your name or bio within the Word document. We only request your bio upon acceptance.
  3. Submission Method: Send all entries to magazine.fieryscribereview@gmail.com.

The subject line must follow: [Genre] Submission — [Title] — [Name].

E.g., Personal Essay  Memories of Liquor Oladosu Cheta.
  4. Simultaneous Submissions: We encourage you to submit the same word elsewhere, but please notify us IMMEDIATELY if the work is accepted by another journal.
  5. Multiple Entries: Please wait for a decision before sending a new piece.
Genre-Specific Guidelines

We seek "unusual" literature across all forms. Please adhere to the following constraints:

  • Poetry: Submit up to three (3) poems in a single document. We respect your intended formatting; please ensure the layout is clear in the .doc/.docx file. NO PDF, please
  • Fiction & Creative Nonfiction: We accept stories and essays up to 5,000 words. We look for profound, strange and surreal narratives.
  • Experimental & Flash: We welcome hybrid forms and experimental prose that challenge traditional structures. Flash fiction should not exceed 1000 words.
  • Reviews & Opinions: We consider thought-provoking book reviews and cultural critiques that ignite conversation. Not more than 5000 words.

Note: All prose must be double-spaced with 12pt standard font (Times New Roman or Garamond). Do not indent paragraphs.

Please ensure your work has been thoroughly edited and proofread before submission.

Response Time

We value the effort and soul poured into every submission. Our editorial team aims to provide a decision on all standard submissions within 4 weeks.

If you have not received a response after 4 weeks have passed since your submission, we highly encourage you to send a follow-up email to magazine.fieryscribereview@gmail.com. We are humans and occasionally make mistakes; your nudge ensures no submission goes unnoticed.

Note: For those requiring a faster turnaround, please see the "Expedited Response" section below.

Expedited Response & Feedback

For writers seeking a guaranteed response within 24-48 hours and brief editorial feedback, please use the option below.

Note: Expedited fees support the magazine's operations but do not guarantee acceptance.

Payment & Archiving

A flat payment of $15 is awarded to an editor's choice per issue. We are currently unfunded and unable to provide compensation to all accepted writers for now.

Works accepted for publication will remain archived on the website indefinitely.

Rights & Permissions

By submitting to Fiery Scribe Review, you agree to the following terms upon acceptance of your work:

  • First Worldwide Serial Rights: We acquire the right to be the first publisher of the work in any medium, worldwide.
  • Electronic Archival Rights: We retain the non-exclusive right to archive your work on our website and digital platforms indefinitely.
  • Exclusivity: We request a 90-day period of exclusivity from the date of publication. Following this period, all rights revert to the author.
  • Promotion: We reserve the right to use excerpts of your work (with proper credit) for promotional purposes on our social media and marketing channels.

Note: If the work is later reprinted in an anthology or collection, we kindly request that Fiery Scribe Review be cited as the original place of publication.

Key Notes

Below is an overview of our policy:

  • We will keep our submissions window open permanently, except on special occasions (e.g., a special issue).
  • We read submissions as they come and will respond within 2 to 5 weeks. As long as a sub doesn’t fit our editorial policy, we won’t hold it for longer. If it meets our fancy, we may hold it for a longer review time and communicate this step to the contributor.
  • Once we have accepted a set of works that meet our taste, we curate and publish them. This period of selecting works for publication may span 1-2 months as we filter through our slush pile. But we’ll ensure that no accepted work stays unpublished for more than 3 months. The assumption is that every accepted work will find companions for its own issue within a 3-month period. This feels possible because we read submissions continuously, and we have a particular taste.
  • Speaking of taste, Fiery Scribe Review will continue to publish quality, thought-provoking works. And we’d love to keep interacting with the cores of the human condition, including the areas that are often left unexplored. We’d like a typical curation to contain stories and poems and essays that are relevant and have depth, that are curious and questioning, that are strange and absurd yet creative in their inquiries, that are experimental and many things at the same time.
  • Every issue will be published with a $15 Editor’s Choice Prize to be awarded to a work that best represents the spirit of that issue. We’ll consider what feels most essential to that particular issue and our mission.
